Sunkist citrus [04 Jan 2009|03:41pm]

wastedbeers
I was just Googling around about citrus (we have a fast-growing plant in our yard that might be a rogue citrus tree/bush/plant) and discovered the following page on the Sunkist website that states
"The fruit's natural wax, removed during the washing phase, is replaced by a food grade, non-animal source wax to restrict moisture loss and extend shelf life"
I've always been annoyed by the waxing of fruit and the fact that most of the time it isn't possible to tell if it's animal or vegetable origin, but apparently for Sunkist it's non-animal, hurray!

Here's the page:

shoe repair [25 Nov 2007|01:50pm]

yerdua
Does anyone have recommendations for shoe repair? The soles of my vegan boots need to be replaced and I'd like to find someone in SF or the East Bay to do it. I don't know what materials are generally used, but obviously I want to avoid any animal based glues or other nonsense.

If possible, I want to avoid sending them somewhere. These are the boots I wear everyday and don't want to be without them for a long time.

Vegan tux? [13 Mar 2007|09:11pm]
yortikins
Does anyone know if there are any places in the Bay Area where one can rent a non-wool vegan tux? I don't really know anything about men's clothing. A national chain would be best. (This is for our wedding this summer and we've got groomsmen scattered around the country.)

Thanks!

Planters Dry Roasted Peanuts.

They contain gelatin.

You may already know that, but I didn't and would never have suspected.

Cross posted all over the place.

San Diego eats? [09 Jul 2006|11:40pm]

Hello!

Some friends and I are headed down to San Diego (from Toronto) in a week or so for the big Comicon. I've heard that eating at the convention centre is a nightmare and am hoping you folks can recommend some good vegan-friendly places nearby to grab a quick bite. We won't have a vehicle but we're planning on buying transit passes.

I've also been poking around on HappyCow.net and like the sound of Cilantro Live and Kung Food Express. They worth checking out? Anywhere else to recommend? :)

Animal Friendly Stuff for You! [21 Apr 2006|05:55am]

xdaligirlx
Hey everybody, I just wanted to tell you about my rad website, www.organicskincareandmore.com I sell Arbonne products, which is a little bit like avon, but everything I sell ins 100% organic, and made from botanicals. There are all kinds of things, skin care, make-up, lotion, shampoo, baby care, aromatherapy, nutrition, weight loss, stuff for men, etc. Everything is really awesome, and not one thing has been tested on animals. All of the packaging is made from recycled materials, and there arent any artificial preservatives or oils in the products. They're all made from plants, including the make-up. I don't mean to advertise on here..well, obviously, to some extent, yes, but I knew how hard it was to find good stuff sometimes, that was animal friendly, so I'm just letting you know. And I became a consultant for Arbonne, so I could save money to start some rally's in Albuquerque, there aren't enough people who know about veganism. So at least check it out for me and let me know what you think, and if you buy something, your contributions are going to a great cause. Thanks! www.organicskincareandmore.com x-posted

Cruelty-free silk? [09 Apr 2006|09:18am]

I just found this while looking for hemp yarn. They say that for this particular silk the cocoons are collected from the wild after the moths have emerged.

CSU East Bay [13 Feb 2006|07:01pm]
j_graves
Anyone have any info and/or opinions on this school? I'd really like to live in the East Bay area (I know this particular school is in Hayward, but I don't know much about it), preferrably in San Fran. However, i'm not sure how realistic it would be to try to go to CSU-EB and live in San Fran. If I go it'll be through the Nat'l Student Exchange and therefore this is the only school in the Bay Area that participates in the program.

So again, any and all comments are very much appreciated! I need to make my decision by Friday.

I'm also looking at other Cali schools (CSU-Northridge, Sonoma State, Humboldt State, CSU-Monterey Bay), so if you also happen to know anything about these schools, please let me know. Thanks!!

PS. If this is inappropriate to the community, please let me know. If it helps, i'm a vegetarian (6yrs strong) and wanting to go vegan and i've heard excellent things about the Bay Area in regards to the availability of vegan products. :)

Trip to San Francisco [08 Feb 2006|09:21am]

alnowatzki
My wife and I are taking a short, pre-baby, trip to San Francisco the last week of March (we live in Saint Paul, MN). From what I've heard, San Francisco has plenty of vegan cuisine. Does anyone have any suggestions of where to eat? Is there a good web site that I could use as a resource when looking for restaurants?

Thanks!

I just moved into Atherton to be a nanny. I've been around San Francisco a lot, but I don't know the Atherton, Menlo Park, Palo Alto area very much. I've heard of that Bay Leaf? something place on University Ave. but I would love more vegan hook ups in the area. Also if you know of any vegan groups I can join to meet new people in the area that would be awesome.
Thanks

Bread [04 Feb 2006|03:32pm]

As much as I like Trader Joe's sprouted bread I would really like to be able to buy ordinary vegan wholemeal or white bread for a reasonable price as I did back in England.

Any suggestions please?

Looking for a room [16 Dec 2005|05:42pm]

mudlam
Hi,
I'm a vegan looking for a room in the Bay Area. 'Where' is relatively flexible, but I am thinking in the city near a Muni or in the East Bay near a BART. Of course I would like to have some awesome room-mates who like to spend time together and do fun things like make really good food, play board games, etc. But I would also like a relatively reasonable rent. And no bedbugs (Have y'all heard? There is apparently an infestation developing in some major cities, including SF: http://www.sfbg.com/40/10/news_bedbugs.html )

Does anyone here have any suggestions? veggieroommate.com has not been helpful...

Thank you!
